Hi, my name is John Wilson. I left school at 16 years old with ‘O’ levels and Highers but didn’t pursue my education as I wanted to concentrate my time on volunteer pastoral work while working part time as a cleaner. As the years went by I fell in love and got married and needed to expand my income so I worked on building my cleaning business to the point where it now supports me financially.

I suppose I felt the need to do something more fulfilling with my working life and so I started a Psychology degree with the Open University and an ‘Introduction to Counselling’ course at Stevenson College in Edinburgh while training and working with Parentline Scotland. Circumstances meant that I was not able to pursue both fields as I had planned so I only completed two years with the OU and went on to complete a Post Graduate Diploma in Counselling at the University of Strathclyde, Glasgow. Just before entering the diploma I trained with Cruse Bereavement Care Scotland and have worked with people who have been bereaved since then. On finishing the Diploma I completed a course in Online Therapy focusing on text based relationships.

After 5 years volunteering with Cruse Bereavement Care Scotland as a counsellor, committee chairmen and member of the Practice Standards Committee helping to write ethical guidelines for volunteers I left in August 2008. I have also worked with AXA ICAS from June 2007 to September 2008 as a counsellor working on the telephone supporting corporate clients and their employees around the world.

I continue to run my contract cleaning business and enjoy my private counselling practice from my office in Livingston West Lothian offering face to face counselling and specialising in online chat environments and working at new frontiers including offering counselling in virtual worlds.

It is now October 2008 and I am coming to the end of my training with Temenos in clinical supervision, it is my intention to offer supervision to counsellors and I am excited about the prospect of transferring these skills to work with all people who want to understand and explore their working life further in a relaxed and confidential environment.

So that’s my background so far, lets see what the future brings :-)
